We welcome Dr Amisha Maraj who is joining us at Cure Day Hospitals Fourways as a female specialist surgeon.
Dr Maraj completed her Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) at the University of Cape Town in 2008. After completing her internship and community service at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, she commenced her specialist training as a general surgeon at the University of Witwatersrand.
Dr Maraj was awarded with her Fellowship of Surgery(SA) degree in 2016. Additionally, she obtained a Masters Degree in Medicine in General Surgery in 2016. Thereafter she was awarded a fellowship in Surgical Gastroenterology (Colorectal) at the University of Witwatersrand.
In 2016, she received the South African Medical Association award for “Recognition composite of hard-work academically and excellent with hospital work”. She has published in both local and international journals on the role of laparosocopy in trauma; laparoscopy in the management of appendicitis and a case report on surgical drainage of a salmonella thyroid abscess. Dr Maraj is currently researching the role of colonoscopies in the detection of premalignant lesion within the South African population.
Dr Maraj has also worked as a general surgery consultant and associate lecturer at the University of Witwatersrand. She has a wide armamentarium of skills and performs a variety of general surgery procedures and has a keen interest in proctology.
