There is no greater gift than giving someone sight.” This is the sentiment that was shown as Cure Day Hospitals Bloemfontein hosted and participated in the “Cataract Blitz”, where 14 free cataract surgeries were provided to those who could not afford it.
The Head of the Department of Ophthalmology, Prof. Wayne Marais, and Ophthalmologists Dr Shelley Barret and Dr Niel van Wyk, who are based at Cure Day Hospitals Bloemfontein, offered free surgeries. They were assisted by Anaesthetists Prof. Edwin Turton, the Head of the Department, Dr Gillian Saffy and Dr Marnus Booyens, from the Department of Anaesthesiology at the UFS, and Dr Henk van Rooyen, a private anaesthetist.
