Ophthalmology: Shine a light on the people behind the procedure

Cure Day Hospitals celebrate the ophthalmology discipline in September.

This offers a lovely opportunity to draw special attention to the ophthalmologists working at Cure Day Hospitals Erasmuskloof.

Ophthalmology in a day hospital setting allows patients to undergo safe, specialized eye surgery and return home the same day without an overnight stay.

Common Day Hospital Eye Procedures

  • Cataract surgery: Removes a clouded internal lens and replaces it with an artificial clear lens.
  • Pterygium surgery: Clears noncancerous growths from the white part of the eye using specialized techniques.
  • Eyelid and lacrimal surgeries: Includes blepharoplasty, entropion repair, or procedures to eliminate mucus retention.
  • Corneal transplants: Replaces damaged or diseased corneal tissue with healthy donor tissue

At Cure Day Hospitals Erasmuskloof we offer specialized care:  Access to dedicated ophthalmic theater equipment, microscopes, and a trained nursing team.

We would like to give prominence to Drs Riël de la Bat, Helen de Jager, Hettie Kruger and Estelle Jansen.
