Cure Day Hospitals Bloemfontein exemplifies the “C” for compassion in our Cure values by proudly hosting and participating in a project that offers free surgical procedures to boys from disadvantaged families in the Free State Province who are on a waiting list for surgery to reposition undescended testes in the public hospital.
Organised by urologist Professor Freddie Claassen, Head of the Department of Urology at the University of the Free State (UFS), and hosted by Cure Day Hospitals Bloemfontein on 26 November 2025, the minimally invasive procedure will correct undescended testes. Cure Day Hospitals Bloemfontein will provide free access to theatres and equipment. The Adventist Professional Health and Humanitarian Services (APHHS), a health outreach of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, will sponsor the surgical procedures for the six boys.
According to Professor Claassen, when a male baby develops in the womb, its testicles form in the abdomen and descend into the scrotum shortly before birth. However, in some babies, either one or both testicles fail to descend. If left untreated, these boys could develop complications, including an increased risk of cancer.
