Dr Helen de Jager was born and educated in Pretoria.
She completed her MBChB at the University of Pretoria in 2003 and started her ophthalmology career in 2005 as medical officer at the Kimberley Hospital in the Northern Cape Province. She worked as a Registrar (2007-2011) under world renowned anterior segment ophthalmic surgeon Prof R Stegmann.
Dr H de Jager become a fellow to the College of Medicine of South Africa as an Ophthalmologist in 2011 and received her MMed Ophthalmology in 2012. She started in private practice together with Prof Polla Roux in 2011. Their rooms are in Brooklyn, Pretoria as well as in Northcliff Johannesburg.
Dr Helen de Jager has a special interest in anterior segment surgery, including cataract removal and intra ocular lens implantation, as well as pterygium removal. Other areas of interest include the treatment of age-related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and dry eyes.
She is married to Dr Francois de Jager, a specialist family physician in Pierre van Ryneveld. They have 2 boys, that love camping and the outdoors.
