“Dr Rhulani Edward Ngwenya obtained a Bachelor of Science (BSc) from the University of the Witwatersrand, graduating with a Certificate of First Class for Human Anatomy. This passion for the human body carried him into further endeavouring and completing a Medical degree (MBBCh) in the same university.
Upon completing his Medical Internship at Kalafong Hospital in Pretoria, Dr RE Ngwenya worked as a Medical Officer in General Surgery at Tshepong Hospital, Klerksdorp. It was his passion for human anatomy that drove him to specialize in General Surgery at the University of Pretoria, where he completed his studies in record time earning him a Fellowship in Surgery [FCS(SA)] and a Master of Medicine in Surgery (MMed Surgery) of which he received the Golden Key award, an award bestowed only to candidates who graduate in the top 15% of the country. He further endeavoured into a second specialty in the field of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery [FCPlast Surg (SA) and Master of Medicine in Plastic Surgery (MMed Surgery)] where he graduated again in record time, making him the first black Plastic Surgeon to qualify from Pretoria since the university’s 113 years of existence.
Dr Ngwenya is amongst an elite global handful who possess a double surgical speciality, making him knowledgeable and skilled in diverse surgical conditions and procedures. His areas of interest include, but not limited to: Breast Surgery (Cosmetic and Reconstructive), Body contouring (body shaping procedures); Onco-plastics (Cancer surgery), and Aesthetic Surgery.
Having held various leadership positions from high school and varsity, he became one of the few in Africa to be awarded an International Scholarship for a World Leadership Course in the United States of America which he completed in June 2008. He continues to apply his leadership attributes and work ethic in his related ventures. He currently serves as a non-executive director for the South African Medical Association Board, and further Chairs the branch responsible for all doctors in the entire Ekurhuleni Metropolitan and part of Mpumalanga.
