It accounts for 9-12% of all cases of blindness. Asymptomatic, half the cases are missed if just intraocular pressure is tested.
Diabetic retinopathy
It is estimated that 1/3 of adults with diabetes over the age of 40, are affected. The patient can swell of bleeding in the eye without the patient noticing any problems.
Macular degeneration
A rapidly progressing eye disease that often goes undetected. It is the leading cause of central vision loss in people over the age of 60. 10-20% of cases if picked up early can be saved with intravitreal injections if done early.
Glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, and macular degeneration are very difficult to detect. Early symptoms are not easily identified with conventional eye examination methods. A retina scan with advanced technology known as optical coherence tomography (OCT) is a fast and non-invasive way to assess the health of your eyes.
